In 1 Kings 4:7, King Solomon had 12 officers to rule over Israel. Jesus had 12 Apostles which were picked by him to rule over His Church after He ascended into heaven. The Davidic Kingdom also had a prime minister who had the absolute authority of the King. In Isaiah 22:15-24 God is angry with his prime minister Shebna, and will replace him with Eliakim, who will be given the keys to the Kingdom, and will have the power to open and shut, who will be a father figure to his people, and who will be a sure peg on a throne of honor to his father. The whole weight of his father’s house shall rest on him. Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of God (Mathew 16:18-19), a symbol of authority prefigured by Eliakim in the OT. Peter and his successors have the power to bind and loose (open and shut) in the name of Jesus, from Matthew 18:18. The entire weight of the Catholic Church rests on the Pope and his teachings, just like the entire weight of David's house rested on Eliakim. Therefore the Papal office is akin to the OT office of steward with Jesus establishing Peter as the first steward of His Church by granting Peter the keys of kingdom. Unless you understand this, you can never understand the Papal office.

We have early Church letters that state, from the BISHOP of Rome (Clement), as an example who wrote to the Corinthians with direction, and references Peter and Paul with him. Some other things that "The Bible" never even remotely mentions. The Bible never states "Add the New Testament to The Bible", it never stated "Jesus is eternal"(in the past tense), it never says the word "Trinity" or "three in one", it never says a lot of things. Truly, Christianity stands and falls with The Catholic Church, and a bunch of bishops and popes. This man is a "scholar", in the same sense as Peewee Herman was a "scholar".
